Hi
I am working on File to File scenario.... when ever i am creating Source Interface what should i select in category... OUTBOUND or INBOUND if its OUTBOUND pls tell me why... Its source interface so we need to select Inbound right?... but i have gone through lot of examples in those examples they have selected OUTBOUND for Source Interface.... Why?
Thanks & Regards
Ravi Shankar B
Hope this picture will make things clear to you
Sending System--
>Receiver System
O/B Interface in XI -
I/B Interface in XI
Therefore :
Interface in XI for the file that will be sent from Sender System , that interface will be Outbound Interface.
And Interface for the File that will be received in the Receiver System will be Inbound Interface.

Hi,
Most of the persons who r new to xi are confusing here.You are thinking in respective of XI that is the main point for your confussion.Hope the following pictures would helps to overcome this.XI for integration between the two sytems.
Sender_System(Always Outbound) ---> Reciever_System(Always Inbound)
Sender_System(Always Outbound) --> XI_Box -->Reciever_System(Always Inbound)
For Example consider an idoc data send to another file system i.e Idoc2File Sceanrio.
Then the Data flow like this
Sender_System( <b>Outbound_</b>Idoc Message) --> XI_Box(Idoc adapter at the Integration server <b>inbound Channel</b>)
XI_Box(File adapter at the Integration server <b>outbound Channel</b>)--> Reciever_System(<b>Inbound_</b>File message)

Hi Ravi,
When ever we create source interface it shud be always outbound process....becoz..it is sending data to the xi system.Similarly while creating target interface it shud be inbound as the msg is received by the target system.

Hi Ravi,
In simple words, outbound and inbound interfaces are always with respect to the system interacting with XI and not with respect of XI itself.
<b>So for example if i have File to R/3 scenario, where in the file data is sent to R/3(IDoc) via XI:
1) Then the file interface would be OUTBOUND interface as the file system is sending data to XI.
2) And the IDoc interface would be INBOUND interface as the R/3 system is receiving te interface from XI.</b>
<u><i>In a nutshell OUTBOUND interface goes into XI and INBOUND interface goes outside XI.</i></u>
This is a standard and followed everywhere in XI.

Ashish

You are integrating a scenario , so you need to see based on the scenario point of view. In this Scenario which message is sending ( Outbound) which is receiving( Inbound) , you will clearly know that.
For coming to the SAP XI( entity) server point of view it is reverse.
Hope you clear, pls give me points.

The best thing to do is pretend that XI isn't there. The source message is going to be sending outbound to the target message, which will be recieving inbound.
It's confusing because you think that XI is pulling something inbound, but it's simply taking an outbound message, and turning it into an inbound message for another system

Hi Ravi,
Direction is with respect to the application interacting with XI.
Sender: Outbound (Pushes out to XI)
Receiver : Inbound (Pulls in from XI)
