Clarification on Reader & Tags.

Hi All,

Can anyone please clarify the following,

1. Will the Tag reader reads all the tags which pass thru it or is there a way,

a] A reader can be used to read selective tags.

b] A tag can be read by specific readers.

Can we control these?

2. If a tag passes thru multiple readers [Multiple readers at same location], will all the

readers read it or it will be read only once, irrespective of the readers. If its read by

multiple readers, information would be duplicated in the backed system.

3. Can the data which flows between reader & tag be signed?

Thanks,

Shridhar..

hi shridhar,

I think , restricting a particular reader to recognize only specific set of tags can be done using the Device Subscription method.

Regarding the readability of multiple readers , i will go with sunil's comment.

thanks,

Hi,

Will the Tag reader reads all the tags which pass thru it or is there a way,

a] A reader can be used to read selective tags.

b] A tag can be read by specific readers.

Can we control these?

Answer : There are different types of tags available based on frequencies : HF tags and UHF tags and may be some more wihch I have never used. Readers are again classifed based on frequency which means they can either read a HF tag or UHF tag. Hope that solves your problem ?

If a tag passes thru multiple readers [Multiple readers at same location], will all the

readers read it or it will be read only once, irrespective of the readers. If its read by

multiple readers, information would be duplicated in the backed system.

Answer : Provided all the tags are of the same frequency and all the readers are also specific to that particular frequency, it is obvious that a tag may be read more than once. You can surely keep a check on duplication at two levels : First, at the device controller level and the second at the backend level. Please check on this from the vendor of device controller. The duplication of records can be avoided in different ways based on scenarios that you are trying to implement.

Can the data which flows between reader & tag be signed?

Can you elaborate on this ? What do you mean by signed ? Do you mean a flag or a source to keep a track whether the tag has been read or not ? If that's what you mean then you can surely do that at a Device Controller level.

Hope that answers all your questions.

Sunil
