RFC,IDOC are r/3 adapters but idoc in abap engine but rfc is in j2ee .any specific reason for this

idoc uses std idoc format which is written in ABAP.
RFC based on JCO which is written in JAVA

The RFC adapter is based on JCo which is written in Java.
