Hi ALL,

This can be a useful topic to discuss for all of us.

System Configuration:Win Adv server 2k, Oracle 9, 1 Gb RAM, p4 2.9 GHz Processor, Intel Original Motherboard, 80 Gb HD

Is Partition necessary to install SAP? If yes, then details.

Number of users to be specified when installing OS?

Steps to install SAP 4.7 on above system??

Looking forward for a great support.

Regards,

Sud

Only 1Gb of RAM? I'd put a min of 4Gb.

1 gig will work...with only a small number of work processes...ans small buffers...and so on if one has more ram, use it

-> partition needed?

not necessarily , but strongly recommended (useful only when having more than one disk...) you can install everything on c: if you wish to do so...but only if the system will serve as a sandbox/test system

-> number of users?

licensing windows? or what do you mean? if this is so, look up your license details

-> steps (short version...)

0. get installation guide and necessary sapnotes (IMPORTANT!) -> sapnet!

1. install os (all file systems must be ntfs!) + apply service pack!

2. check + apply prerequisites (for example os version, page file etc.)

3. install rdbms oracle 9.2 incl. patches (9.2.0.8 - Opatch!)

4. install central instance by using sapinst

5. install database instance by using sapinst

6. post-installation activities (such as patching kernel, backup db etc.)

Hi Andreaz,

Thanks! I am having further questions:

In SAP can I install DBMS etc on a partition of another HD when SAP is installed on other HD and thereby access it through SAP?

Is that other partition has to be NTFS?

For SAP 4.7, Is 80 gb sufficient where about 10 gb partition for OS and rest one patition (70 gb) for SAP and DBMS etc.?

Thanks for ur interest !

hi,

yup another partition is suitable, even another server would be fine as long as these machines have ip connection! plz notice that rdbms (= database executables) and the data itself (= tables within the tablespaces) are not the same! rdbms is approx. 2-gig, the data can span several terabytes...these two can but normally do not share the same disks...

NTFS is the (one and only) choice..plz be aware that in the sap world big files (tablesapces bigger than 10 gb etc.) are normal...

80gb could be sufficient depending on the products chosen...for example ides alone is around 50-70 gig (only the data!)...netweaver 2004s is around 30 gig...46c around 15 gig (data only!)

-> /usr/sap

-> /usr/sap/trans

-> /oracle/<SID> inkl. saparch, sapreorg, sapdata etc.

are the most frequented directories...a second disk is recommended because you can distribute oracle data, sap data and other on different disks...don't forget the pagefile...needs some gig as well!

Hello,

Yes ucan install DB on different partion,make sure that it is also NTFS..remember not install it on FAT,coz the maximum file size will be 3-4GB.if ur database is growing then it will a problem so better to approach on NTFS

yes 80GB is enough u can have 10GB for OS,but i recommen 5GB..remaing u can make as one drive (for sap and db)

Kind Regards

Umesh
