Hi All,

We have one unit of 32 bit-DB server with MS SQL server 2000 and on

windows 2003 OS. Can we add an application server with 64 bit

technology?

It's Urgent

Hi There,

We have a similar set-up here.

32-bit DB server (Windows 2000, SQL 2000)

New 64-bit App server (Windows Server 2003)

I am currently trying to bring the app server up in a UAT environment but have been running into a few problems.

The dispatcher is starting but none of the WP's are coming up. So the lack of WP's causes the dispatcher to shut itself down.

This is the errors I'm getting in the dev_w*

A post in another thread mentions that a similar problem may be caused by a version mis-match between gwrd.exe and disp+work.exe but these are definitely consistent.

If anyone's got any idea's that would be great!!

Cheers

you have kernel "patchno 175" on your 64-bit DI machine.

Which kernel patch are you running on CI?

Can you post dev_disp from 64-bit instance that does not start here?

Hi Yaroslav,

the Kernel patchno is 175 on the 32-bit CI.

As requested, here is a copy of the dev_disp trace file.

is this dev_disp from the 64-bit system?

look at the dev_w0 you posted above:

>M systemid 562 (PC with Windows NT)

>M relno 6400

now dev_disp:

>systemid 560 (PC with Windows NT)

>relno 6400

Former Member

Yes the dev_disp above was from the 64-bit system.

The systemid is 560 in the dev_w* and dev_disp trace files on the 32-bit system. But like you mention above the systemid is 560 in dev_disp and 562 in dev_w* on the 64-bit system.

How would the 64-bit system be trying to use inconsistent systemid's?

hmm ... good question...

could you please post start profile from 64-bit system?

Here is the Start Profile for the 64-bit server. I have sapcpe.exe commmented out so I don't overwrite the 64-bit kernel with the 32-bit kernel from the CI.

bring kernel patch 175 to you 64-bit instance...

CI has KP 175, DI - KP 134 - will never work.

Or you have a mix of 32 and 64 bit executables in exe folders.

Our app server is IA-64 and the SQL-DB box is on a separate 32 bit server. We have no issues.

Former Member

Hi David,

Just curious that why don't you upgrade DB box to 64 bit too? Are there any concerns for doing that? We are weighing should we upgrade only App server or upgrade DB server also...

Thanks,

well, I think what is trying to do is normal:

for performance purposes he needs to add an addtional box to his system.

Why 32 bit if 64 bit is supported.

But we need to now what SAP ABAP version he is running. Not all combinations are supported so far.

Did not go to the 64 bit on the SQL DB box because of $$$$$.

We are still at 4.6D and upgrading SAP and Production 1Q next year.

I am low man on the budget poll.

Former Member

We are currently (on our testing machine) running a 32-bit DBCI with a 64-bit app servers...

No problems, although there really isn't much of a performance enhancement with this scenario.

which ABAP Server version you are running?
