Initialization DB-Connect Failed

hi,

we are getting an alert with the text:"initialization DB-Connect Failed, with return code 000256"

i have done all the regualr checks to figure out what is the cause for this alert. but couldnt figure out anything

i ahev also tried to look up for sap notes at the service market place but didnt find any

can some one compe up with a solution for this

Delete the previous <b>trans.log</b> file (if exist)

Execute the command R3trans -x

Provide output of the newly created trans.log file.

[I guess this is something to do with the archive destination]

dear ammey,

thank you very much for your timely and valuable suggestion

but my team had diff appraoch to this problem and they had simply restarted the instance and the problem is solved.

so i could quite implement your suggestion and come up with the new log file

anyways will remember your suggestion n will try it the next time i come across this problem

Hello,

The error you are getting here is

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

The "service name" is SMT

This error usually indicate that the tnsnames cannot be found or it is wrong ( or the service name is wrong )

You can check note 443867 for more info

Hi Srirangam,

that error is pretty general.

Please start

R3Trans -d

and check the file <b>

trans.log

</b> which will be generated into your current working directory.

In this file there should be error information of more detail.

Post this information then.

dear lars,

the system was restarted and the problem was solved even before i could try n get you the new trans.log file. anyways will remember this solution of yours and will try if at all i come across a similar problem.
