TDMS and non R/3 systems??

Is anybody using TDMS that also have Business Warehouse or SRM/CRM/SCM etc., in production? We have been told that if we do a database copy of our production R/3 system, we should simultaneously do a database copy of our BW and SRM systems to ensure data consistency. What happens if you use TDMS? Do you do a database copy of your BW and SRM systems at the same time you do a TDMS refresh?

Thank you,

Jon

Hello Jon,

If you use TDMS to refresh your R/3, currently the connected systems should still be refreshed at the same time to assure a cross-system consistency.

The nice thing about using TDMS in such an environment is that TDMS will not touch cross-client data on the R/3 so all interface/communication related data will remain unchanged. In case there is also client-specific configuration involved, TDMS can easily be configured to treat it the right way as well.

Hello Manfred ~

I work with Jon and had two follow-up questions:

1. How the interface/communication data is affected by having Logical System Names defined. The TDMS demo said we'd still have to run through the BDLS name changes; do we?

2. Also how is the Java DB is affected with TDMS, as we are currently limited to an import/export that results in downtime that we'd like to avoid.

Hello Lara,

The general available version TDMS 05 still requires to run BDLS after the data transfer.

The new version TDMS 06 (currently in Ramp Up and still accepting applications) changes the logical system name during the data transfer.

Regarding Java DB: TDMS will transfer all client specific tables that are accessible from the WebAS ABAP.

Best regards,

Manfred

Hi,

We are doing a product research on SAP TDMS(test data migration server) as we are planning to implement but at the same time we are looking for similar products like what other companies are offering and what other SAP companies are using, as We have heard that SAP TDMS is too costly and offers support only to ECC & R/3 .

My question, is there any product that is similar to SAP TDMS that is less in cost and offers more services to look into ECC, BW,AP0,R/3 etc,.and

secondly what other companies are using .

Please do reply.
