Eclipse 3.2 and WTP 1.5

Can I deploy applications on NWAS using Eclipse 3.2 and WTP 1.5 (not NetWeaver DeveloperStudio)?

Is there a plugin available (like plugins for Geronimo or WebSphere ApplicationServer (CE))?

Thanks,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Firstly - welcome to SDN!

Well, the short answer to your question would be "No".

First of all, let me mention that WTP 1.5 supports only J2EE 1.4 development. SAP NWDS builds on this by providing support for Java EE 5 applications.

Secondly, the Servers view allows you to publish (deploy) applications to configured app servers in your environemt, however there is no possibility to configure SAP NetWeaver AS in there (this is also an extension from SAP). NWDS also provides the so called Deploy View that allows you to import and deploy existing EAR application archives so that you don't need to have the eclipse projects for them.

Finally, let me ask you if there is a reason not to install NWDS together with the AS and use it for development and deployment of your Java EE applications?

All the best,

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir,

thx for fast answer and your welcome to SDN.

There are two big reasons not to use NWDS

- the need to migrate from eclipse to NWDS

- the need to test the application on other available servers supported by WTP

Hi Andreas,

The NWDS is based on Eclipse 3.2 and WTP 1.5, but also adds additional features to those (e.g. Java EE 5 support). This means that you can still use all the features of Eclipse and WTP without any need for migration. For a starting point of what's in the SAP NWDS you might want to check the corresponding section in <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f98c731d-0e01-0010-dfa5-dfb8f49dac6e">this document</a>.

Cheers,

Vladimir
