Dear All,

My goal is to evaluate the "SAP Exchange Infrastructure" by developing integration POC.

However, I am confused what to download among the following and what is the difference between them:

[1] SAP NetWeaver Application Server

[2] Developer Workplace - Trial (minimized memory consumption)

[3] Full Java Edition-Trial

[4] SAP NetWeaver 2004s Java Trial Version

From the download link https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloads

Thanks in advanced for help…

Aws

Hi,

>>[1] SAP NetWeaver Application Server

The SAP NW AS can function both as a Web server and as a Web client. In its Web server role, it can accept HTTP requests from any Web client (for example, a browser), process the requests, and send a response back to the client.

In its Web client role, the SAP NetWeaver Application Server creates HTTP requests in an ABAP program, and sends the requests to a Web server. The client then receives the responses and proceeds on the basis of the responses.

>>[2] Developer Workplace

Developer Workplace comprises two components. The component is NetWeaver Developer Studio and J2EE engine that you can deploy the components you build in NWDS. These components are both installed on your local machine.

>>[3] Full Java Edition-Trial

Java ( SAP XI needs java )

>>[4] SAP NetWeaver 2004s Java Trial Version

This will help you to understand

None of these will allow you to develop an XI Proof of concept as it is a separate application. There is no "free" or trial version of XI available.

The only alternative I could suggest is that you could try getting access to the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/esa/esapreview">ESA Workplace</a>

which includes an XI system

I understood out of this document http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/30/c4461ff69d5a438f1286e344b545fa/content.htm

That the SAP NetWeaver has components for Process Integration and from this document

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/20/68a72acfb61f4a9dfefa1901e8c3b6/content.htm

I understood that SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) forms the basis for the integration of business processes and falls under Integration Broker area of the SAP NetWeaver …

And that’s for I am trying to download the SAP NetWeaver out of the following

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloads

which is titled: SAP NetWeaver Trials and Previews

<b>Please explain to me if there is any misunderstanding in the above.</b>

~Thanks.

I know it is confusing at first but think of SAP Netweaver as a platform which consists of many different pieces of software or <a href="http://www.sap.com/platform/netweaver/components/index.epx">components</a>. The core components, which are available through the trial downloads, are the JAVA and ABAP Netweaver Application Servers. You also download some other components such as the Portal and Knowledge Management at the same time. Unfortunately XI is one of the additional netweaver components that are not available through the trial downloads.
