Registering MDM servers in SLD - Is it required?

Hello mates,

I was going thru this doc MDM 5.5 SP04 - Register MDM Servers in the SLD.

My questions..what is the advanatage of registering MDM servers in SLD? Isn't it enough if we create Technical & Business Systems in SLD? Do we need to link the Tech/Biz system to the registered MDM servers in SLD? Can these servers be monitored or sth like that?

I appreciate your inputs.

thx in adv

Hello Praveen,

the SLD registration is different to the CCMS monitoring.

SAP is recommending that all SAP applications running on a customer's landscape should register to the central System Landscape Directory (SLD). This is why we developed the SLD registration capabilities for the MDM servers.

The idea behind the SLD is to get an immediate overview about the installed systems in the landscape. If you need to do the registration or not depends on the customer's SLD philosophy.

Best regards

Hi Praveen,

The SLD registration is mainly required for the CCMS monitoring. If you do not want to monitor your systems this way, you do not need to register MDM in SLD.

For more details on the CCMS monitoring (which is a really helpful feature if you have multiple MDM servers with multiple repositories), please have a look at the MDM Documentation Center. Under "Operations" you'll find a lot of useful documentation regarding CCMS.

Kind regards

Michael

Thanks Michael. We are not implementing CCMS monitoring hence it is not required in my case.
