Did you mean:

saplicense.exe -install, connect to DB failed

Hello,

I have been trying to get the license key installed for SAP NW04s on a windows box.

When I try to install the key from command prompt I am getting this error:

      • SAPLICENSE (Release 700) ERROR ***

ERROR: Connect to database failed

DETAILS: DbSlConnect failed with return code 99

SQL-ERROR -4008 (check DB manual for explanation)

I was able to connect to the <hostname><J2EDBInstance> using 'superdba' from DBM command line interface, but could not connect using 'control'. By any chance does the saplicense.exe use 'control' db-userid for adding the key?

or I am totally off with my guessing?

I had also set up the user environment variables DBMS_TYPE (tried both 'sdb' and 'ada') and DIR_LIBRARY, and logged in as the <SID> that has been created for J2E instance.

Any help, directions, links to articles or other posts in this regard much appreciated!

Details of the environment, command used are listed below.

Command executed:

saplicense.exe -install [ifile=NSP.txt]

Version: NW2004sJavaSP9

DB : MaxDB

Env: Windows 2003 Std Server, with MS loopback adapter

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It appears that you are attempting to install a license for the JAVA stack using "saplicense.exe". Please note that "saplicense.exe" is used only for the installation of a license key in the ABAP stack.

To install a JAVA stack license, proceed as follows:

1. Start (restart) the J2EE

2. Run Visual Administrator and navigate to Services -> License Adapter.

3. In the right hand pane, choose the option to install from "File"

4. Exit the Visual Administrator

5. Restart the J2EE

First of all thanks for the detailed instructions on the installation. It was quite a challenge figuring out the location of Visual Admin

But I am getting there.. slowly
