Hi,
I have a scenario R/3 <-- XI <-- Legacy. This might be really basic but the message interface of the legacy system would be of category Inbound. ?? I get lost in sometimes judging the directions of the message interfaces. Is there any cardinal rule in setting the direction of these interfaces?

Hi,
it is inbound for legacy system here.
Some tips:
If message is coming <b>into XI</b>, then it is called as Outbound Message Interface.
If message is going <b>out from XI</b>, then it is Inbound Message Interface wrt other system is concerned.
don't confuse here

Moorthy

--If the message is coming into XI , in this case the message is coming into XI from legacy right. So how is it inbound? This could be a dumb assumption but I would appreciate a clarification.

Hi,
For me it looks like that:
a) interfaces
outbound - this message which initialize communication
(thanks such understanding you can avoid confusion during synchronous communication)
inbound - this interface which not initialize communication
b) channel (it can be also confusing for beginners)
sender - is always this one which tranfers to XI XML format
receiver - is translating from XI XML to other (like file, idoc, rfc)

Hi,
inbound
as it's from the point of view
of the application system (legacy)
