Advantages and dis advantages of installing DB Instance on a diferent box

Can some one explain the advantages and dis advantages of installing DB instance of XI on different BOX?

Hi,

When you Install the DB instance in the same box where SAP XI Obviously it will make the system bit slow there will be performance issue, the response time of the server will be bit slow.

What might be the reasons.

Bus speed is more then netword speed, can't it be the other way?

Can any one point me to any sap documents suggesting to install DB on a different box?
