How to install SP for WAS

Former Member

Hi

I installed WAS 6.40. The version.txt says "Cluster-Version: 6.30 PatchLevel 70836.32". Which SP do I have? I need to upgrade to J2EE engine 6.40 to install the EP. I have downloaded the *.sar files for SP04 and SP09. I understand from the forum discussion that I have to first apply SP04 and then SP09.

How do I apply the SP?

I have my WAS installed on a windows 2000 machine.

Thanks

Sriram

Hi Sriram,

you need to extract the .sar files using the sapcar.exe (also available on swdc) once you have extracted the files you will get a sapinst.exe that you run. You will then be prompted to enter parameters for the patching not unlike the installation process.

In regards to the version:

There are two version.txt files one is under <user\sap\...\cluster\dispacher (the one you are looking at if i am not mistaken) and the other is under <user\sap\...\admin\cfg. I'm not sure why the two version.txt I expect that they are different in some way however they will both tell you the version\sp you are running by looking for the paramater spnumber which is in both files.

Please assign points by clicking the star on this post if this is helpful.

See whether SAP Note 701385 could do any help to you in finding out the version number.

Hi Immanuel,

have a look at quicklink swdc and follow this path:

Download > Support Packages and Patches > Entry by Application Group

and then the links:

SAP NetWeaver > SAP NETWEAVER > SAP NETWEAVER 04 > Java Server > J2EE Engine 6.40

There you have a list of other links:

First choose OS independent, here you find the file

"WebAS 6.40 SP09(Part 4/4): OS Indep. Parts of Java Runtime" - choose it.

Then change to NT/I386, here you have to download the other three files:

"WebAS 6.40 SP09(Part 2/4): SAPInst Control File for SAPDB ";

WebAS 6.40 SP09(Part 3/4): OS Depend. parts of Java Runtime";

"WebAS 6.40 SP09(Part 1/4): SAP Installer"

Extract these files using sapcar in an own folder - that's all you need.

Regards,

André

(Edit: Thesse files are for SP09, you can find the SP04-files there too)
