Is SAP on Linux mature enough for productive use ?

Hi

I’m not quite sure if this is the correct forum for this question – But I’ll risk it anyway

We are starting a SAP project from scratch – and my manager has asked if we could run the solution on Linux. I know that Linux is supported by SAP, but is the solution mature enough for productive use? Do any off you have any experience with this ?

Regards,

Morten Nielsen

Hi Morten,

Yes, we've been running SAP on linux last 4 years. Most of our SAP servers are running SLES 9 (ie. BW 3.5, ECC5 and SCM 4.1). Very stable with zero unplanned downtime...

We use SAP on Linux for all our SAP applications:

- R/3 4.7 EE 2.0 (1 TB database size)

- BI 3.5

- CRM 5.0

- XI 3.0

- SCM 5.0

for about 1.300 users with 12 languages.

We use MaxDB as database.

Hi Patrick,

We also use Linux for production used, but only for R/3-Application Server, our R/3-Database still used AIX.

We are still trying SAP-BW IDES on Linux & Oracle 32 bit.

Are you using also Linux for BW Production Server ??

How big your hardware for BW-Server ??

What database are you using ??

We have been using Linux for productive operation since 4 years.

We believe it is as good as any other UNIX, if not better.

Hi Venkat,

have a look at OSS note 171356, it gives a good overview about released distributions.

For the hardware platform, also should consider Linux on Power, which runs on the same hardware platform as your current AIX setup (see OSS note 765424).

Best regards,

Elmar.

Hi Morten,

you can use SAP on Linux. We use an WAS 7.00 on Linux SLES9

64bit. It runs very well. In the Future we migrate some other

System to this Platform.
