Namespace conundrum

Former Member

Hi All,

I want to know that is there any rule that applies while naming the namespace. I came to know that there are two ways in which we christen the namespace, i.e, URN and HTTP but I don't know what is the difference between them.

Thanks in advance.

Mona.

Hi Mona,

Namespaces are globally unique identifier for related Integration Repository Objects. Several namespaces can be assigned to the same SWCV.

Naming Convention:

URI - http://sap.com/xi/demo

Uniform Resource Indicator, similar to a URL, but does not necessarily point to a web resource.

URN - urn:sap.com:xi:demo

Uniform Resource Name, like a URI but without a protocl assignment.

Hope this clarifies.

Hi Praveen,

Your response was clarifying one. I have one more doubt that : Can I give any name for the URI or URN ? I mean you gave the name http://sap.com/xi/demo

What if I give http://mona/xi/agg

Mona.

Hi Praveen,

You mentioned namespaces as 'Globally Unique'. What is the range of word "Global" here ?

Hi Mona,

You can use :

URI

http://mona.com/xi/agg or

URN

urn:mona-com:xi:agg

What you need to follow is that it should be unique.
