Could anyone provide some idea about what is MDM, what it will do?How can we best compare with BI?
thanks
Alekhya
Hi Friend,
SAP MDM is Data Management System means maintanining record in such way that, MDM is single point of truth for all the system with in Enterprise.
What we do actually in real time is.
First, we do get the data from SAP, Siebel, or Legacy System to SAP MDM.
And, we do Consolidate the data in SAP MDM, which we had from different system.
Then, we do Harmonization the data to all the systems using schedule or batch process from SAP MDM.
Where as, BI is for presenting the data for global purpose like Spend Analysis.
Please mark this as very useful.
Sincerely,
Bala

Hi Bala,
Thanks for providing answer, Please clarify the following doubts:
what is product catalog?
What is MDME(master data management Engine?) import manager? and MDME Image manager? Why DTP will come into picture in Product catalog?
I understood from your webblog, ESA not possible without MDME, in such case any web application can access MDM data, so how can we ensure the security?
If you can provide few general steps in MDM. I will be so much thankful.
sorry for many qns...........at a time
Thanks
Alekhya
Hi,
(1) MDME is the name of the software SAP purchased from A2I. Product is rebranded to SAP MDM 5.5. Simply, if you see MDME in any presentation or documentation, replace it with SAP MDM 5.5
(2) Image mgr is a client application to load images into the MDM repository.
(3) Product Catalog = mechanism for a company to publish to their clients what products they have for sale. Can be paper based or electronic trough web-sites, portals...
(4) ESA is possible without SAP MDM. But ESA will highly benefit from a Master Data Management system or single point of truth for your master data. Wether SAP MDM is the right product ... that is another question
(5) Security in a SOA architecture can be implemented trough trusted connections : The calling application accessing the MDM data trough webservices should manage the security.
Regards.
Dirk

I don't have docs. Because this is a http page on SDN featuring related pages via links.
In addition, an interesting overview is provided in this flash demo:
http://www.sap.com/germany/campaigns/it-practices/billboard.htm.
You need to switch the language to English, and check the contents of the IT Practice Data Unification. It includes an interesting overview lecture, and demos.
