Hello Everyone,
Recentely we had a situation where usr/sap/<SID> Dir was 90% full. Reseting the trace file under sm50 reduced the %age to 30%. Could someone tell me how this could have helped? Did the developer trace in the work Dir get reset. Some insight would be helpful. Thank!!
Regards
Poornima
Hi Poormina,
In my expirience reseting the trace files via SM50 will remove all non-default files and clear all default log files as dev_ms, dev_disp, etc... from the work directory. This will increase the amount of free space. You can also delete old spool jobs and remove old kernels.
Hope this help!
Juan

Please know that, few times external interfaces like SEIBEL, TOPCALL, EMAIL Interfaces ...etc might switch on traces while the traffic coming in to SAP systems. The configurations is part of saprfc.ini file.
Otherwise, for regular monitoring SM50 all processes traces needs to be turned off; there are setting to stop tracing by external interface users or deactivate traces automatically. Please refer those as follows:
