SAP MDM 5.5 sp4 basic questions (cont.)

Former Member

ok - so now I want to create Master Data.

Would this be done directly into the SAP MDM 5.5 sp4 Data Manager, or would I have to create it in an R/3 instance and effectively ETL it into MDM 5.5 sp4, perform a manual process to validate the data, determine matching merging and survivorship and then have the resulting Master Data synchronized across the enterprise?

If not, what is the process that needs to be followed to create a Master Data entity (doesn't matter what entity, it's the process that matters to me).

kelvin,

you can create the data in Excel, access or flat file format and can import by import manager ,validate and syndicate or

create the data in MDM data manager or create the data in remote system which are connected to MDM.

Its all depends on how and from where you want to bring the data in MDM or from MDM to other systems visa-versa

Hi Kelvin,

Please go through IT and Business scenario of SAP MDM.

Another point is this depends on current landscape / architecture which will define a place for SAP MDM. You need to define which system will be your Point of Creation (POC) for master data.

You need to understand this things from business and then design your lanscape.

Hi Kevin,

You create directly in MDM Data Manager or create the data in R/3 and import to MDM and then syndicate to other systems.

But it all depends on which system you want to maintain as ROO. If you want to maintain MDM as ROO then you have create the data in MDM. IF R/3 is going to be the ROO then create in R/3.
