Hi,

To restore the universe , you can open the existing universe and export it to the repository with the secured connection.

But it is not bestpractice for universe back up.

import the required universe into the .biar file uning import wizard and you can restore them to the repository when ever you want.

This is a secured universe back polocy,

Thanks,

Hi

As per the requirement of company

Suggested to take a backup of universes on daily basis and told to put on Testing system through Network place

I am going to use Import wizard for taking a backup in .biar file in another system on D or E drive is it possible .

Questions ?

1) is this correct ?

1) if I take a backup of universe on a daily basis ( will the reports generated on that particularly day will be saved along with universe) or it will save only the structure of universe ?

2) is it recommended to take all universe on a single day through IMPORT Wizard

or

do we have any alternate for this ?

3) they may required these backup in future also please suggest ?

please assist sir

Hi,

1)Yes, You can take the universe back up into the .biar file and place them in any your network location.

2) If you are selecting universe only universes will be imported to the biar file. If you want to take the back up of the reports , you need to select the reports also during .biar file creation.

3)It Depends upon the number of universes that you are impoting into the .biar file.

In XIR3.1, .biar file can hold up to 2gb data. If you are exporting morethan 2gb , import wizard will automatically generate multiple biar files.

So if you have large universes , better to take the back up each universe individually.

4)The universe .biar file conatins only universe structure along with the connection.

Hi Khaleqazeem

How to restore depends on how you backed it up. Creating a BIAR file each day is possibly the lowest risk option, going forward.

As for your immediate need - If you happen to have a local copy of the universe, you should be able to just export it to the repository. Assuming you were the last developer to update it, your reports should link up fine u2013 but it would be a good idea to back up your reports just in case.

Good Luck!

Hi,

To do a Universe Back up follow the bellow steps.

1. Using Business Objects Designer import the universe. Then making no changes, close the universe. This will create a fresh, unaltered copy of the universe on your local computer.

2. Locate the universe file (*.unv) and the folder (has the same name as the universe file) in the following folder path on the computer on which you are running Designer:

3. C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataBusiness ObjectsBusiness Objects 11.5Universes@DevelopmentWorking Area

4. Select both the universe file and the folder. Then right-click either the selected file and chose u201CWinZip -> Add to Zip Fileu2026u201D.

5. Enter a name; it may indicate the version of the universe, the date/time, or editor. Click u201COKu201D and notice the new Zip file you created. This is your backup.
