Besides the storage type configuration that you pointed out there is also the matter of batch management that needs to be addressed. In the picking strategy you may or not want to have the FIFO strategy because of the task of searching throw the for ex. 1000 boxes in order to find the correct one. The option that you stated fits perfectly for the picking strategy of pallets or maximum 10 boxes per storage bin.
Regarding the batch, if the strategy lets you choose the batch the system will propose you a HU for the picking step. I advise further testing until you find, if not already found, the most beneficial picking strategy for you.
