Hi,

Let's say you have implemented SAP for a customer who was not using SAP before (For example a customer who was using in-house developed system). Up to the date you plan the go live all his sales order, purchase order, customer master, vendor masters, etc are only available in old system. Now when you start working on the new SAP system you need at least most of those old master data and some of your transactional data (sales order, Purchase order) in the SAP system.

In the cut over phase we identify, what data needs to be extracted from the old system and feed in to the new system. For example, we take all active customer masters and vendor masters. And also all open sales orders, and purchase orders. Then from the day you went live with the SAP system, all required data is available in the system. This is called the cut over phase activities. The methodology of identifying and extracting and uploading data is called "Cutover strategy". Based on the existing system table structure we extract data in to Excel. Then for SAP we need upload tools such as, LSMW to upload them.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Anupa
