SRM 5.5 ITS Webgui logon group load balancing

I am using SRM 5.5, currently I only have a central instance and no application instances.

The url what the users use is

http://<CIHOST>:<8070>/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbpstart

I would like to introduce a new application dialog instance on a separate host.

My question is am I correct in thinking that I do not require a web dispatcher for this and the only actions required once the dialog instance is installed will be

(1) Within transaction SMLG create the logon group and assign both the CI and DI (new dialog/application instance to the group

(2) Within transaction SICF within the service sap/bc/its and sap/bc/gui/sap within the service data tab under Load balancing enter the logon group

(3) Change the parameter on both instance profiles ms/server_port_0 to PROT=HTTP,PORT=8070

Would my users still be able use the same URL http://<CIHOST>:<PORT>/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/bbpstart

And then get load balanced across both the central instance (CI) and the application instance which is on another host using the same URL?

Any help and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ajay

Hello Ajay,

the profile parameter ms/server_port_0 is only relevant in the Central instance (or ASCS)

anyhow see SAP Note 1040325 HTTP load balancing: Message Server or Web Dispatcher?

where is described the limitations when doing HTTP load balancing via the mesage server.

kind regards,
