7.2 GUI install does not retain user shortcuts and favorites

We are upgrading our SAP GUI from 7.1 to 7.2 GUI and have found that after a client PC is updated, the users shortcuts and favorites (previously set in 7.1 GUI) are NOT retained. Does anyone know of a configuration parameter setting available to effect this? We WANT to allow users shortcuts and favorites to be retained and not have to re-built them. Thanks Jackie Seals

We are having other problems with 7.2 GUI for some users.  When some users are trying to make Hardcopy prints of SAP screens, the hardcopy print is successfully printed however a "remnant" of the previous screen (in this case the pull down menu to select "hardcopy print" from) remains on the printed image.  It appears to be a screen refresh issue...where the menu path is not cleared fast enough before the screen print image is captured.  In the worst case scenario, some people have as much as 2 inches long by 1 inch wide of the data obscured and others have 2 inches long by 1 character width of data obscured.   We have ensured there is enough memory on these PC's.   Any ideas?

Hi Jacquelyn,

All the shortcuts are stored in the file saplogon.ini in the location C:\SYSROOT\

I had once backed up this file before i did an upgrade to 720 release to avoid any loss of data.

This needs to be maintained in the SAP GUI Configuration file settings.

Open the gui, on the right top corner you will find box, click on it and select Options from the drop down.

Now navigate to ->SAP Logon Options-> Configuration Files

You can now see the default parameters of the GUI, here check for the parameter SAPLOGON_INI_FILE, if not maintained please maintain the PATH of the saplogon.ini as C:\SYSROOT\saplogon.ini

This should help if you are upgrade the GUI in other PC's

Thanks

Jaianandh V,

Use caution with this approach you suggest. Windows 7 will prohibit non-admin users from write access to files in C:\Windows.

Most enterprises going to Win 7 will have users with reduced rights. That is why saphortcut.ini and saplogon.ini are placed in the user's profile directory where they have write access.

I see that SAP GUI 7.2 patch 10 came out 1/13/2012 and now has hot fixes 2 and 3 - but both are listed as "no patch - debug only". Patch 9 came out 11/14/2012 and has hot fixes 3 and 4 that are also listed as "no patch- debug only'. Please advise as to what the latest stable GUI level is. THanks

Jackie,

Are you using the feature of a central configured logon pad file (saplogon.ini) where the file is kept on a server?

We have found that when using that 'new' feature, users can individually save SHORTCUTS, but if they save anything in the FAVORITES folder of the SAP Logon window, it will be erased when it is closed.

If you are not doing this .. and are loosing shortcuts/favorites, are you aware of how 7.20 Gui saves these files in the user's Windows profile? They get populated there, vs. C:\Windows

So if you do a full un-install of 7.10 and then fresh install of 7.20 and user starts SAPLogon .... it will use saplogon.ini and sapshortcut.ini that are in C:\windows and copy them to C:\Documents and Settings\user\App Data\SAP\Common (Windows XP example).

So you either need to replace those files into the user profile area, with the ones unique for the user ... or after the install of SAPGui runs ... replace the files in C:\Windows with the 'customized' ones you want to be used.

Hi Bob - We are facing same problem that you described

"We have found that when using that 'new' feature, users can individually save SHORTCUTS, but if they save anything in the FAVORITES folder of the SAP Logon window, it will be erased when it is closed."

Did you ever find any way around this?  We want to use central configuration file to keep users from editing the settings but also want them to be able to copy those entries to their Favorites folder.  All favorites linked back to entries from the central config file are lost when logon pad is closed.

I should mention that we will be using both Windows XP and Windows 7 environments and we are on ECC 6.0.. SPS4 and going to be upgrading to EHP5 and BW 7.3 in the future.

Which patch level of SAP GUI 7.2 do most people (including SAP) think is the most 'Stable' ? and are there any hot fixes for it that also need to be applied? (We obviously don't have the option to go to 7.3 now as it's not yet released.) Please advise,

THanks for your help.
