hello gurus! I'm new at SAP actually. and of course I need some assistance.
I'm the HP-UX sysadm, recently there has been a migration, and SAP was running on HPUX 11.23 and now it is on HPUX 11.31
and so far everything is OK, except of course, that the SAP admin tells me that SAP is unable to print with error:
SAP spool error log
=====================
Print request processing log
The host spool is reporting errors
Message from host spool:
/usr/bin/lp: destination "lp0" non-existent
End of message
Errors occurred processing this print request
Error during print request output. l_rc = 1
There may be no printout
Now, the server has more than 200 printers which has also been migrated from 11.23 to 11.31
and if I send a print job manually, it works fine.
lpstat shows all the printers fine and accepting requests.
of course there's no printer, at the OS level called lp0.
so my question is if at SAP level, there's something else that needs to be done in order to be able to print again???
thanks in advance.
Luis.

Hello
Do not make a direct connection to the printer device, best to use a print server.
Refer to SAP note:
64628 - Using network printers from R/3
The best option is to define the printer locally on the SAP server with
access method L. If you need to use remote Access Method U or S, please
use a print server in between the SAP system and the printers (possible
then to use SAPSprint as per SAP note 894444).

Hello,
If you use access method L then the entry "__DEFAULT" makes no sense
in the field "Host printer", here you must define the name of the
printer which is given on the OS side.
If you use frontend printing with access method F then please note
that this is not supported anymore, please use access method G instead
of it .see also
note 821519

John Feely

HI ,
Goto the Tcode SPAD and check the setting of the printer like hostname, access method and try to print from SAP level.
