Hi Specialists,

I have a question, we have to develop 7 dashboards (Views) with Oracle as a back end, we are going to use Web Services for that. Details requirements are given below.

1. Each of these views interacts with each other through hyperlinks. A user should be able to go directly to any of these views, but a user should also be able to click on a particular record in one view and pull up a more detailed view with data filters pre-set based on the selection in the previous view.

2. If a user navigates to a view from another view (via hyperlink), the context of the previous view should be maintained.

3. There are some graph view, user can click to see the raw data,

a. The summarized and raw data from any graph or table can be downloaded to MS Excel.

b. Each view can be printed. Print views are represented in the width of a single sheet of paper, in portrait or landscape mode as appropriate. The view can roll on to multiple sheets horizontally if tables include a large amount of data, but the information in the view should tie to the width of a single page.

4. Shorting and searching option in all Views.

Clint is asking us to use Visual composer, but we think Webdynpro java would be better.

Could you please suggest me which one is better for these requirements and why, what problem we can face if we can use VC, and how Webdynpro java would be better.

Regards

Divyanshu

Hi Divyanshu,

Though it looks like the application will be easily developed in VC, but you also need to think about the scalability. You need to have a confirmation from your client that in future there will be no requirement of manipulating the data or a need business logic based on the backend data. Otherwise you will have to redevelop the entire application in Web Dynpro.

Hi,

Have a look at this document, it may help you to define your case

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/20532df7-ffb9-2b10-fbb2-aeb7489ad4bd

But since your application presumably requires coding (export to Excel functionality, maybe printing via Adobe Forms) and may need specific UI elements, I think the choice for WD is a no-brainer

Hi Robin,

Thank you for your reply.

You mean VC would be better in compare to WD. I dont have much knowledge of VC, is export to Excel functionality and print via Adobe Forms can be easy in VC?

Dear Divyanshu,

Print and export to Excel functionality are built-in in the visual composer.

Depend on the complexity and view transaction, you need to decide for VC or WD.

Thank you Arun and Robin,

Just one question, If I choose VC, is ther any problem to navigates properties. means If a user navigates to a view from another view (via hyperlink), the context of the previous view should be maintained.

Dear Divyanshu,

It depends how you developing. I think it should maintain.

Refer to http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=638431&tstart=2670

Are you planning to go with VC or WD. if you are using oracle database then you should think about choosing WD.

Are you using BI Dashboard?

Hi Arun,

No, we are using oracle as a backend, client want UI development in VC, so we have to give solid reason to convince the client for choose WD over the VC.
