Becoming SAP consultant...

Hello,

I have gain a lot of experience in developing business software in last 7 years and in previous 2011 year I had start learning about SAP so it happens that it got under my skin and I like it;)

What I would like to know is what are the first steps in becoming successeful SAP consultant, do I have to pass some strict courses/certifications or is it possible to be self-educated and to work normally as SAP consultant for any company?

Any suggestions are welcome and many thanks in advance!

Hi Sam,

The first priority is to gain knowledge, not certification. Certification will help you and give you an edge once

you become knowledgeable in your area/domain.

You should start working as SAP consultant in a company. Gain enough knowledge and then go for certification

after few years. Then you will be able to perceive the certification. Otherwise you will just learn for certification

which will not be of much help in your career.

You can as well go through this blog as a reference on how things work at SAP.

Hi Leon,

thank you for quick reply, I appreciate it.

I have one more question: I plan to specialize for certain module (only one) and to make the most of it. Is there any module in SAP which best-recommended for beginners or I should simply choose the one that is best-suited based on my previous experience in business? Also, on which way I can test my knowledge on SAP system but at same time I have to be sure I don't make some mess on PRD or something?

Hi,

You have to consider based on your background - education, experience and interest. Then only you can learn

more and become expert in the domain. If you are technically good in programming, you can consider ABAP.

Otherwise the functional side you should decide based on your background as that will add to your experience

and gives you an edge.

Becoming a SAP consultant depends on your background, experience and communication skill ... You can be a Technical or Functional or Basis consultant. Here is a good reference http://sapbrainsonline.com/help/sap-consultant.html
