Hello Colleagues,
We are trying to refresh 9i DB into 11G DB.
We were successful in restoring the database but we are getting the error during the recovery phase.
The database is not starting and hanging in mount state.
I am getting the following errors:
ORA-10879: error signaled in parallel recovery slave
ORA-01547: warning: RECOVER succeeded but OPEN RESETLOGS would get error below
ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'G:\ORACLE\QAS\SAPDATA1\SYSTEM_1\SYSTEM.DATA1'
SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
alter database open resetlogs

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01195: online backup of file 1 needs more recovery to be consistent
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'G:\ORACLE\QAS\SAPDATA1\SYSTEM_1\SYSTEM.DATA1'
I had raised a ticket with SAP and they say 9i to 11g DB refresh is not recommended.
Kindly let me know is there anyway we can start the 11G database using 9i binaries?? How do we do that??
Kindly provide me some notes. I need to start the database somehow.
Hello All,
I have done the steps which i had mentioned earlier
After installing 9i database, i completed DB refresh from our PRD landscape. Its more of ABAP refresh as we export the java contents and later import it after refresh.
During import of the java, i m getting the following error:
CJS-00030 Assertion failed: OraSqlContext constructor: arguments dbSidOrSrcObject and dbHome are not valid.
Error 2 (The system cannot find the file specified.
) in execution of a 'RegQueryValueEx' function, line (238), with parameter (ORACLE_HOME_NAME).
Kindly let me know how do we go ahead.
I could find the following notes
1.

How do we manually create files???
(Java): Error during J2EE standalone installation
During the dia
log phase of the Oracle database installation for J2EE standalone (step checkForRunningDatabase) you may get the following error message: "Assertion failed:OraSqlContext constructor:arguments dbSIDOrSrcObject and dbHome are not valid".
If this error occurs, manually create the file "init<dbsid>.ora " in directory %ORACLE_HOME%\database.

Hi,
could you be a bit more precise please.
Assuming your source DB is running 9.2 with 9.2 binaries.
Assuming your target DB got an earlier refresh on version 9 and got upgraded to version 11.
Assuming the problem is, that you like to retry the upgrade! and would like to restore DB 9 to target once again.
Now that is a lot of "assumes" ...
Do you want to retry the upgrade?
You need to revert the environment of the oracle User to version 9 again and do a complete recovery with Version 9 binaries. Once the db is operational (on version 9) you might try to retry the upgrade.

Hello Deepak,
We cant install in different mount points.
QAS restore using Database backup and restore method
1) Uninstall the Oracle 11g database from QAS
2) Install the 9i software and apply patches to 9.2.0.7 level (same as PRD)
3) Take PRD backup (online +Archive logs)
4) Restore the PRD backup on QAS
5) Perform the post steps and start the applications
Let us know if the above steps make sense.

Arunabha

Hello venky,
Kindly elaborate the 9i to 9i refresh without uninstalling the 11g.
We have the 9i binaries but when i change the environment variables back to 9i location, nothing seems to work.
I even tried to start the DB using 9i pfile and spfile.
But it doesnt allow.
Kindly provide the steps.

Arunabha

Hi Arunabha,
What Venky means:
1) Install Oracle 9i software on target system on different mount point.
2) Do not disturb installed 11g Oracle software installed
3) Restore backup of PRD on ORacle 9i to target system on ORacle 9i.
4) Perform recovery and start the database.
I don't think this is what you need .

Hello Deepak,
I have mentioned the complete reply from SAP.
They have just updated that much.
Anyways we have decided to uninstall the 11g oracle and again install 9i DB.
Then start the restore and recovery as customer wants us to move back to 9i DB.
Alternatively we can follow your suggestion and do a system copy.
Kindly let us know which is a better option. Also let us know whether a downtime is required for exporting the dump.
We are using ECC 5 systems with java add in's.

Arunabha

Hi Arunabha,
SAP suggested way
Backup / restore method, 9i to 9i.
If you preserved the Oracle 9i home directory /oracle/SID/920 then, no need of uninstalling 11g and install 9i.
Deepak suggested way
Well, technically no need of downtime, you can perform export online but with degraded production performance and longer export time.
If you wish for offline export, no issues at all.
You can import the dump into Oracle 11g database at one go.

Venky
Hello Deepak,
Thanks for your reply.
I would like system copy to be the last option.
I had raised a ticket with SAP and they keep insisting to start the DB using 9i binaries.
SAP's reply:
This is not a downgrade. What I have suggested you is to perform a full
refresh using 9i binaries, since this is what you have in production. Inother words, it will be just a simple refresh
Hence i am unable to understand how do we start a 11g DB using 9i binaries.
Please help us

Hi Arunabha,
SAP replied:

Above information from SAP implies that you perform system copy of PRD running on Oracle 9i to target system also running on 9i.
May be then upgrade the database to ORacle 11g would be an option.
If you can share full conversation with SAP, I shall be in a better position to help you.

Hi,
Starting 11g database with 9i binaries is not possible and not supported.
In case you want to have system copy from ORacle 9i DB to ORacle 11g DB, you may look for option of database export and import method using R3load. You have to use SAPinst to export the database in 9i.
Then install target system in 11g and provide export dump path of 9i database. This way you shall get data from source 9i database into 11g database.

Deepak Kori
