Can we add Java Stack after complete installation

Former Member

We have already installed SAP ECC 6.0. While installation, we had opted only for ABAP stack. Can we add the Java stack now?

Regards.

Hi,

You can install Java stack now.

But, note that it is recommended by SAP that to install ABAP and Java Stacks on different hosts with few exceptions.

Hi,

Yes you can install java server on existing ABAP but

If you have an existing ABAP central instance + ABAP dialog instance and

you want to install Java Add-in to the central instance, you first need

to uninstall the ABAP dialog instance, then Install the Java central

instance add-in and then install an ABAP+Java Dialog insntance.

Please refer ABAP+Java instalation guide.

Hi,

You have to install the Java stack as a different SID because dual stack systems are no more supported.

By the way why would you need a java stack for ECC6 ?

In my opinion, it is much better to install a separate SAP EP Portal. But of course it depends from your specific company needs.

Thanks Olivier. We require the Java stack because some of the features like wsnavigator, etc. do not work on the ABAP stack. Also, as we are short of servers, I was looking into the possibility of having both the stacks together.

Hi again,

The choice is yours but in my opinion :

Don't install a new full java stack system just for a utility like wsnavigator !

If you already have a java stack based system, you can use it or you can just use a freware utility like SOAPUI to test web services.
