Hello Sukhwinder,

we too are using Legato Networker backups for our MaxDB Content Server.

It is done by means of the Oracle backup interface for Networker.

For a start:

SAP Note 338681 - Backint for Oracle connection

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I heard about it but our Networker partner says that this product is not available. SO could you please share in detail about Networker which version are you using and the way you are using the same.

Thanks a lot.

Actually we are just in the process of migrating away from this environment, towards new storage technology, and in connection with that, new backup concepts.

So I can tell you how it was rather than how it is.

But anyway, MaxDB 7.6 and Legato Networker 7.3.

And as I wrote, do not ask about backint for MaxDB, but about backint for Oracle.

One more SAP note: 822240 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB: Using external backup tools

In principle, Backint for Oracle can backup any data in the file system, independent of whether the Oracle database system is installed on the host or not. Integrating MaxDB into an Backint for Oracle interface requires that this feature is guaranteed by the manufacturer of the backup tool that has a Backint for Oracle interface. If you have any questions about this, contact the supplier of the external backup tool.

hope this helps

PS:

One more detail:

MaxDB backups will be written to a Windows pipe by the backint interface;

Legato Networker will save the data stream from the pipe to tapes.
