Hi,

Did you perform any change prior to this? Please check the permissions for oracle.

You can try cd /oracle/SID/102_64. chmod 6755 oracle tns*

And let us know the outcome.

hi Venky,

there was monthly activity. i used only stopsap. while I try to bring it up we had above issues.

chmod 6755 oracle tns*

I tried but in my project, we do not have orasid access.

Hi Mate

Have your issue resolved ? If not try to stop all the process running from ora<sid> and then restart the oracle.

Hope it will help you.

Thanks

Gaurav.

Hi Experts,

Thanks for your suggestions. there was some idle ORASID processes. I killed them & start the system. It is up now.

Thanks again.

Hi,

mind to say, what happend before you tried anything like this?

Also some information about your environment would be nice, esp.

if there is some HA software available that is trying the restarts of your DB.

Killing proceses is not the usual way to stop oracle...

First of all: You did check the OS log for hardware errors, did you?

If this is not(!) HA environment:

stop all SAP instances

stop DB

stop Oracle listener

stop saposcol

stop sap startupservices

NOW: Check if any shared memory objects or semaphores are left, that should not be there, and clean them.

If you are not sure how to do this, consider to reboot the machine.

Startup the entire system again:

Switch to Oracle User, start the listener.

Do

lsnrctl status

and

tnsping SID

Both commands should work OK now.

Do

sqlplus / as sysdba (should report "connected to an idle instance")

being in sqlplus, enter "startup"

Messages following should end with "database opend"

leave sqlplus and switch to sidadm User

Do

R3trans -d

and check "trans.log" for errors.

If nothing is wrong up to here, you are ready to start SAP.

HI Volker,

Thanks for your reply,

system does not have OS log hardware error.

mccfwd08:stiw382 49> grep -c "hardware error" /var/adm/syslog

0

*stop all SAP instances*

we have two application on the same host. do we need to stop both?

stop DB

we tried stopdb, it is not working. i have execute it no of times below is out put. the main reason is we are not able to connect to database by sysdba or else.

below command is not working

sqlplus / as sysdba

do we need to restart whole the unix box? is there any other luck?

Hi,

system does not have OS log hardware error.

mccfwd08:stiw382 49> grep -c "hardware error" /var/adm/syslog

0

Hmmm, that is a strong conclusion for a single grep of this specs..

What about "disk failed"? "network not responding" ? "Port already in use" ?

And what else could be in there?

You need to view and crosscheck the log!

*stop all SAP instances*

we have two application on the same host. do we need to stop both?

It depends.

Two appl.-instances of the same system? YES

Another instance of a different system? NO (...in case you know how to work ipcs and ipcrm).

stop DB

we tried stopdb, it is not working. i have execute it no of times below is out put. the main reason is we are not able to connect to database by sysdba or else.

below command is not working

sqlplus / as sysdba

And what is the error like?

Hi Volker,

I have checked OS LOG. donot find any H/W network error. or else.

We have one BW instance & one ECC instance on the same server. ECC is working fine (no network issue). I have issues to start in BW instance.

I have restart BW many times.

Two appl.-instances of the same system? YES
