Hi Experts,

We are going to install SAP on I5/OS and DB2. This is the first time we are installing SAP in this os environment. Can anybody let us know what approch should we follow to do this activity. How this installation (sap on i5/os) is different from other installation like SAP on AIX or UNIX or Windows.

And link for Installation documents for CRM 7.0 ehp1, pi 7.1 ehp1, bw-abap 7.0 ehp2, portal 7.0 ehp2, Business Objects 4.0 (BOE). All these documents should be for i5/os and DB2 database

Regards,

Sudip

Thanks for your answers.

I would like to know the below set of questions

1. Whether i5/os commands are like AIX and Unix commands?

2. And i5/os will be having file systems like AIX and Unix.

3. Like we are doing SAP installation on AIX using X-manager s/w in any windows system, so SAP installation on i5/os will be similar?

4. other then OS everything will be same for SAP in i5/os?

Hello Sudip!

I can only give you inputs on the first two questions:

1) As per my experience, AS/400 is a complete different world. you have a Qshell where you can execute commands like in Unix systems, but you only have a few commands. For user interface you have a "green console", and as a sort of "graphic interface" you can use iSeries Navigator. If you're familiar with graphics interfaces and Windows things, be prepared to the change .The real AS/400 commands are completely different to Unix commands. I think is like learning a new programing language.

2) I think that the main drawback here is that you have FTP and QNTC (for Windows) for accessing files over the network. Just as an example, I couldn't find an easy way to transfer SAP reports (files) to a Windows File Server without using FTP.

I'm looking forward to hear experiences of users with SAP on iSeries!!

Cheers,

Diego.

Thank you very much....

I also like to know the below questions on installation-

How I will install SAP on i5/os operating system-

1. We are using X-manager tool to install SAP on AIX or HP-UX to get the GUI screen, so which tool we will use in i5/os environment.

2. After SAP installation every configuration will be similar in i5/os

Hi Sudip,

1. We are using X-manager tool to install SAP on AIX or HP-UX to get the GUI screen, so which tool we will use in i5/os environment.

=> the normal tool to access the OS would be "telnet" (keyboard is available at http://www.easymarketplace.de/dspvtmap.php?Printer=1) - but the new installations of SAP are running - at least as an option - via X as well. So, I typically install the VNC tools on iSeries and then access the installation via a VNC client - for sure, you can use SAPinstgui for Windows as well ...

2. After SAP installation every configuration will be similar in i5/os

=> I do not really understand the question here ... but, yes, you should change a lot of i5 system values and a lot of SAP profile parameters ...

Hello Sudip,

You can perform a remote Installation with SAPinst. Just for a starting point check here: http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/stage/RemoteinstallationsofSAPSystems

but you might want to refer to the related official documents and notes mentioned there.

Diego.

Hi Sudip,

you will find the install dacumentation at exactly the same places as you find them for all other platforms as well

Except BO ... BO is is not available on System i yet.

The already mentioned "redbook-docu" is very good and helpful. But I'm in doubt, that it will be sufficient, to do a useful installlation & setup without any "SAP on iSeries" skills just with these 1000+ pages books ...

Hello Sudip,

You'll find the installation guides under http://service.sap.com/instguides.

Also you might want to check IBM Redbooks: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com

For example:

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp4189.html?Open

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/redp4200.html?Open

Diego.
