Is it possible to have 1 BI JAVA to service multiple BW systems?

We have a requirement to install BPC 10.0, but are unable to upgrade our BW system to 7.3. We currently have a BW 7.02 system connected to BI JAVA 7.0. We will be installing BW 7.3 for BPC usage and will require a BI JAVA connection. Is it doable to use the same BI JAVA to service both BW 7.02 and BW 7.3?

Thanks,

Catherine

Catherine,

Yes, technically you should be able to use it. We have BI Java 7.0 connected to BW 7.02 for Bex Analyzer and Broadcasting.

2 BW systems cannot be integrated into 1 single portal. And the reason is as follows. When you integrate a BW system in the portal, the portal recognies this BW system with the system alias SAP_BW. Since, system aliases are unique and always assigned to only one system at a time in the portal, this means that a 2nd BW system can no longer have the same alias SAP_BW. Thus, you will not be able to use the 2nd BW system simply because the portal always recognizes the first BW system which is having the alias SAP_BW.

Now, you have only 2 options:

1. Implement 2 portals, thus having one portal for each BW system.

2. Go as per point 1, and install a third portal in a federated manner so that the user always uses this third portal and the job of the first two portals is to supply data to the third portal. So this portal can show both the BW systems through application integration with the 2 portals.
