Hi guys, we need our Finance users to access a SAP GL system via the SAP Portal and have been informed by our SAP Basis guys that our 2 deployment options for users access to the SAP GL system are:
1) Web GUI - no GUI required on desktop
2) GUI for HTML - requires GUI on desktop.
Firstly I thought that GUI for HTML was the same as the Web Gui but maybe I am wrong.
Secondly, I thought that there were only 2 GUI options for the desktop (GUI for windows and HUI for Java).
If our back end SAP system is running on Linux, would our Basis guys be referirng to SAP GUI for Java on the desktop?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Hello Michael,
in case your client platform is Windows, there are 3 options, SAP GUI for Windows, SAP GUI for Java and SAP GUI for HTML.
On other platforms the latter two, and in case functionality only available in SAP GUI for Windows is critical, you can choose a Citrix based (or similar) solution.
The platform of the backend and the one on the client side are independent.
For more information about the SAP GUI flavors and their use cases, please refer to the Slides available at http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/sap-gui#section29.
The slides also refer to some SAP notes with further details.
Best regards
Rolf-Martin

Hello Micahel.
There is a lot of information in the note
[66971 Supported SAP GUI platforms|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/66971]
It is possible to run GUI for Windows indirectly in Linux if Citrix is used.
This is useful if you are going to use Microsoft Office integration,as there are restrictions on SAPGUI for HTML and
SAPGUI for Java.
Regards,
Jude
