Syed,

We are planning to upgrade our EP 6.0(was 640) on sql2000 and windows 2003(x32) to NW 7.3 on sql 2008 windows 2008(x64). We are planning on system copy of  EP 6.0(was 640) from Source: on sql2000 and windows 2003(x32) to Target:  on sql2008 R2 and windows 2008 R2 (x64).This will be followed by direct upgrade from EP6.0 (was 640) to NW 7.3  I am mainly looking at the notes:

Since you took a similar approach, I would greatly appreciate if you could comment on this approach and provide me with any insights based on your experience.

Thank you!

Hello Edurado/Deepakkori,

Thank you very much for your help,

1) Migrate CRM 5.0 to Windows 2008 R3 SP2 64 bit with MSSQL 2008 .

You need to use homogenous system copy method using R3load . Refer Homogenous system copy guide.

You mean to say i have to install Windows 2008 R2 OS and Ms Sqlserver 2008 r2 database on new hardware

and take the system copy of our existing system by using homogeneous system copy and import it on new hardware by using sapinst.....

Please suggest ...

if we are taking the export and import it will success on WIN 2008 R2 AND MSSQL 2008 R2 DATABASE?...

Thanks,

Syed

Please go with EXPORT/IMPORT method. This 'is' the way.

Thanks

Hi Syed,

Homogeneous system copy using R3load means using Export/import method.

Hi Deepak Kori/database SAP,

Thank you very much for your quick response,

I have little bit confusion here what i need to install on target system exactly?

I will take the export of the source system and before importing into the target system we need to install OS: Windows 2008 r2 only or OS and db mssql 2008 Server r2 is also needs to be installed?

for your information my source system runs on Windows 2003 Server(32 bit) and database mssqlserver 2000 sp4

Thanks,

Syed

Hi Syed,

You need to use SAPINST to install your target system using system copy option -> Target system installation.

You need to have Windows 2008 R2 first and then install database software MSSQL 2008.

When prompted for Export Dump location, provide details from the export taken.

Hi Syed,

You can follow this approach

1) Migrate CRM 5.0 to Windows 2008 R3 SP2 64 bit with MSSQL 2008 .

You need to use homogenous system copy method using R3load . Refer Homogenous system copy guide.

2) Then upgrade CRM 5.0 to CRM 7.01 on the new hardware.

I do not see any better method that this.

Deepak Kori
