Install SMD on a physical host

Hi Experts,

I need to install SMD on a physical host that has a lot of sap systems running.

How can I install SMD in this case because I can't install more than one SMD on a physical host?

Hello Marilia,

Yes, you can install multiple SMD Agents in one Physical Host. Just rerun the SAPINST and choose a different SID.

See the attachment for more clarification on where you need to install agents.

Please note that in the attachment AGENT_SCENARIO.jpg it says

"1 agent per host support several managed systems running on the same named host"

It means that if you have, for example, 10 SAP systems, but you define them as belonging to the same host (same hostname), you can use the same agent.

If yoy have 10 SAP systems, but you each one of them as a virtual host, that is, they have their own host name, you must install one SMD agent per virtual host.

But I have a couple of questions:

what is the difference between to install SMD Agent as virtual host or hostname?

How can I define a virtual hostname? Is there any OSS Note to perform it?
