How to Capture SERVICE master data?

Hi,

How do we capture Service master data?

I can see that there is a Master Data for MATERIALS, and the workbooks cature MATERIAL info. Is this supposed to be used to capture SERVICES as well? (Would it therefore be better named 'Products' instead of Materials)?

The only other way I can think of is to simply capture the Service internal category groups (Product Hierachy) and stop at this level without defining the actual service item?

Please advise ASAP as need to advise customer

Regards

Hi John,

I assume you would like to know if it's possible to handle services master data from ERP in SAP Sourcing and consider them as part of the integration process flow between ERP and SAP Sourcing. The use of services master is one way to go about managing services spend and it is very common for service heavy industries like utilities, oil and gas and chemicals industries. This approach is a very rigid, well structured and deeply integrated with services demand generation and downstream execution processes.

Handling of structured services has some unique requirements compared to materials. One of the options to be considered when handling structured services are the SRM capabilities for structured services. This includes things like: out-of-the box integration of master data between ERP and SRM, demand consolidation for services and integration between services demand generation applications (plant maintenance, work orders, self-service procurement) and upstream sourcing (in SRM's Bidding Engine). Other things to consider are: model services structure requirements (bill-of-services), services hierarchy, services contracts and integration into the catalog management, downstream service execution (purchase orders, service entry sheetsand invoicing by suppliers).

You could still model some level of support for structured services within SAP Sourcing but it will requires some consulting work and can be on a project basis. The following points will have to be addressed:

  • Extraction of Service Master from ERP (already possible via SERVMAS IDoc) and mapping of the extracted Service Master

data into a file structure readable by SAP Sourcing. PI will be required

  • Modeling of the destination objects for services (either existing material master with indicators for services or

user defined master data object) including pickers/search helps

  • Modeling of processes for services within SAP Sourcing - some unique requirements exist when integrating services (e.g. service structures,

account assignments, item categories)

  • Extending current integration processes to support service related transaction document transfer to ERP

Overall it would be important to consider how much integration customer is looking for and what is the overall process for services. depending on custoemr requirements it may be required to combien the capabilities of SAP Sourcing and SRM to deliver the full end-to-end process.

Hope this helps.

Best

Marko

Hi,

It's actually an OnDemand Customer, in the mining industry. They do not currently want ERP integration as they have several instances of ERP.

They do have Services, but no Services tab on the upload workbook, so I am wondering how to get these in?

For simple use case:

There must be lots of other companies that want to bring across some Services to the SAP Sourcing System? can we adapt the materials masta data to allow services to be captured here? or are we missing a dedicated master data container for services?

From an OnDemand solution, what can be provided as standard here, and what would be a Value Added Service?

Thanks

John
