Hi Srikishan,

At what periodicity you would be storing the data is one of the most fundamental topic. Periodicity is ideally not supposed to be changed once you have finalized the design. Exception could be when your business processes change dramatically due to any UNKNOWN factors later on.

Discuss with your business as to what level planning is really needed. For DP purpose, having a monthly bucket is mostly sufficient. But some businesses might want to do a weekly forecasting, especially for cases like product allocations (GATP). But again on the other hand, product allocation kind of product area would be separate, so you could make that a weekly one, and keep the main DP planning area as monthly.

Balance needs to be made between 2 things- business requirement vs cost of storage. The more data you store, the costlier the system memory would be for you. If you can work with monthly DP for example, no point in storing data at week level also.

Changing later on from monthly to weekly means changes at planning area level (periodocity), plus it would also mean that you might need many macros to be created at week level, etc. Similarly, new planning views would need to be created.

Basically, your current efforrts of setting up the planning are at month level could go down the drain if later on you plan to shift to weeks. Sheer wastage of time and money.

So, discuss with the business and have an understanding right now itself regarding the data storage that meets your needs.

Thanks - Pawan

Hello Srikishan,

The authorization to change periodicities in /sapapo/tr32 is not given to everyone. If you have authorization, then you should not change it directly. You can just extend the start and end date without de-initializing but changing of periodicites should be done after de-initializing all planning areas(taking back up of data is imporatnt).

Now if both week and month are selected, then data is stored at the week level(data is always stored at the lowest periodicity level). But you if you want to change the display periodicity in /sapapo/sdp94(from week to month) then you can choose appropriate time bucket profile which will be defined in /sapapo/tr30 and use that corresponding time bucket profile in your planning book/data view(tcode /sapapo/sdp8b, tab = Data view).

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Nithin.

Hello,

You cannot change storage bucket profile when it is used in active planning area.

You'll need to backup the data for all versions in the planning area to infocube, and de-initialize the planning area first.

Then after you make changes to the storage bucket profile, you re-initialize the planning area, and restore the data from the infocube.

Best Regards,
