Hi Experts,
Where can I locate documents or notes on Transparent Application Failover (TAF) implementation with SAP? Does SAP supports client-side TAF?
When one of our Oracle RAC server is shutdown (intentionally or unintentionally), we receive a lot of complains from users that their transactions hangs. We hope to use TAF to address this issue but cannot find much info on SAP site.
Thanks,
TM
Hello.
The only SAP specific information about TAF can be found on the whitepapers posted in the SDN about installing SAP on RAC.
>> Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
for 11g you look at:
>>> Configuration of SAP NetWeaver for Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2 with Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g Release 2
Rest of information should be checked on the Oracle guides.
But if they "hang" it maybe also that the VIP is not being used and you are waiting for a TCP timeout. IF TAF is not working, when the RAC node is shutdown, the ABAP process should get an error and try to reconnect for x amount of times (perhaps it is trying to reconnect too many times)

Hi,
SAP did seems to support TAF. There are few OSS notes that talks about TAF,:
830982 - SAP recommendations for Oracle RAC 9.2.0.x config.
There is also a great POC document from Kjell Erik Furnes Kjell Erik Furneson Dataguard that did cover TAF
I'm currently doing some tests to use TAF with Dataguard, did you finally use it ?
