Hello,
We have quite a complex problem where our catalog links (internal+external) do not work with IE8 browser in our production system but everything works fine with Firefox. In our sandbox and development systems all links work with both browsers.
All our environments use https ports by default but I have also tested http setups with no success in the production environment. We tried to go through all of the internet explorer settings but found nothing that would work. We have also checked that neither proxy or firewall receives any packages when clicking the portal catalog links. So for some reason our SRM server does not allow access to any internal or external links. SRM server logs show nothing. Our SRM servers reside at our hosting partner's premices. When connecting directly to our hosting partner's servers with a remote connection, the catalog links work fine with IE8.
We are unable to find any settings that cause this from our IE or desktop policies. Any clues to what could cause this problem?
We are running SRM 7.0 SP11 (SAP_ABA and SAP_BASIS level 10).
Yours truly,
Matti Hokkanen
is it showing any yellow warning on the status bar of IE when you click the link (you can only see the link if its enabled in the internet options ->advanced)

Thanks for the reply. It does not give any warnings and the status bar is not visible for the page. The browser only displays the SAP blue and yellow waiting circle .gif image for a couple of seconds and then does nothing. Could you be more specific which IE setting allows to display warnings? I haven't been able to display any warnings because the shopping screen has been built with two nested pages where you can't even view the source code. Being able to display warnings would be of great help.
We do not have CCS configured. The problem is the same for all catalog links. We have tested with three types of catalogs: Punch Out OCI, our own Java catalog with OCI and Bugseye catalogs. The type of catalog does not make any difference. All types have the same problem. The waiting gif runs for about two seconds and then nothing happens.
The proxy settings for IE and Firefox are excactly the same. Per Site Privacy Actions in IE include our whole intranet as allowed and it covers also our production SRM portal. And as already mentioned above, there are no packages sent to proxy or firewall from our production system catalogs.
Could there be some mismatch between our Windows XP user policy or Internet Explorer policies and SAP setup? It is strange how all other systems except the production system work fine. What could be the difference between our development and production environments that make one work and another fail to connect to catalogs? We cannot figure out any.
EDIT: Privacy levels in IE Internet Options are set to Low for both intranet and internet.

Yes that might be indeed the case. We will go through the policies one by one and see what is in conflict. How to resolve the problem might then be another problem. I did not try this with a lower version of IE since I am not allowed to install any programs to my computer. However I did try to test this in IE8 compability mode which should be equivalent to IE7.
We were able to solve this problem. The problem was caused by inconsistency in IE8 between local intranet and trusted sites zones. We had added our SRM environments and OCI vendors to our trusted sites while HR functionalities and the actual portal site were not added to trusted sites. Removing all portal entries from our trusted sites solved the problem. Another solution would have been to include ALL portal sites into trusted sites.
IE8 did not take well having some sites within the portal in trusted sites while other were not there. There also seems to be some error in IE8 that sometimes trusted zones are being handled as they would be in the 'Internet zone'. Before the correction our portal opened in trusted zone and this caused problems with links and buttons within the portal. After removing all portal content from trusted sites, our portal launched in Intranet zone and everything works fine.
Thanks to everyone for your active inputs!
BR, Matti

Hi Matti,
Please install "IE8 COMPATIBILITY SITES 1.0_EN_001" from the netinstaller.
This should resolve your issue.
