Changin SID of cloned virtualized R/3 4.6c system

Hello all,

we are planning an upgrade of our R/3 4.6c landscape (DEV, QUAL, PROD) to EHP5 for ERP 6.0. Our systems are on VMware (ESX), Windows Server 2003, Oracle 10.2.0.5

We plan to setup Solution Manager 7.1.

While upgrading DEV and TEST we need to setup a Dual-Maintenance landscape of dev_temp and qual_temp. For that we usually would install SAP 4.6c on other hosts and do a systemcopy of dev and qual. But it will be too complicated to setup this old R/3 4.6c landscape again and do a systemcopy with R3Load on it. That is why we want to clone dev and qual and rename host and SAP SID afterwards (as we cannot have identical SIDs in system landscape). I have not been able to find a proper guideline for changing the SID of a SAP instance. The advice in this forum was to do a homogenous systemcopy. As we want to avoid this whole procedure, do you have some kind of checklist what has to be reconfigured when changing the SID afterwards?

Thanking you in advance and kind regards

Luthien

As its a 4.6 ABAP system a clone using an offline backup of the source system will let you change the sid by updating the .afd file and the control files

You cannot change sid by simply edit the profiles.

Just edit the profiles if you are only changing the SID.
