What is the Exact differences between Earliest and Latest Dates??

I am learning the SAP PS course and asking basic questions which i got during my preparation....Please Clarify my basic questions...

Hi,

Earliest Dates:

I give a start date of the project (or network) to let the program calculate wann a certatin activity will start using that start date.

=> Forward scheduling determine the earliest date2.

Latest Dates:

I known that deadline of the project (or network), I use this finish date to let program to calculate wann a certain activity need to be finished to fullfil the deadline.

=> Backward scheduling determine the latest dates.

If the latest dates of an activity is earlier than the earliest dates, =>negative float, so either you should start the project (or network) more earlier, or you need postphone the deadline.

I am not against other people's posts, but to clarify you and to my knowledge:

Earliest date (Start or Finish): refers to how soon an activity can Start or Finish per your schedule

Latest date (Start or Finish): refers to how late an activity can Start or Finish per your schedule

And, as others suggested, you need to refer to baiscs of scheduling to understand on how scheduling works in SAP. Forward/Backward pass, Critical path, TF (Total Float) & FF (Free Float), Lead-Lag relations are few other essential things to know.
