the difference between SLO client copy and an old-fashioned client copy

SLO experts:

We are planning to use SLO transferring a BW client to another target (POC project).

We are not sure what is the difference between an SLO client copy and a traditional client copy.

One reason why we want this POC is that SLO client copy can be done w/ an upgrade per SAP guide. But this

made us even more confused:

1) does this mean SLO client copy can be done between a lower version source and a higher version target?

2) no shadow system is created during the copy/upgrade combination?

Thanks!

Hello Christina,

Hope you don't need explanation on What is standard client copy which copy's the whole DB from the source system to Target system.

SLO System Landscape optimization in TDMS (Test Data Migration Server) is where you can copy the selected data (Example like past 6 months or past 1 year data Instead of copying whole database ) from the Source system to Target system.

SLO has data transfer technology called Migration Workbench (MWB). MWB connects a sending system with a receiving system via RFC interfaces. The relevant data is transferred from the sending (production) to the receiving (non production) system via MWB.

The MWB Code Generator creates the function groups and function modules for the migration.

Actual migration. The data is read , converted and written to the receiver system . Depending on the amount of data that needs to be processed, data will be processed in one or several portions. The migration procedure is automatically documented in a log.

Arjun,

SLO Client Copy has been described by you correctly but standard client copy does not copy's the whole DB from the source system to Target system..It is a system copy that copies the whole DB from the source system to Target. It depends on the profile selectection how you want to copy client!!

Joy,

Good Catch ....

I am was talking about System Copy not the Client Copy. Client Copy requires the profile selection not the system copy, it was mistake in the reply .

Hope you know what is System copy is.

Thanks,

Arjun
