Hardware compatibility

Hi all experts,

We are running SAP system on Oracle database. The details of the same are as under.

1. Hardware Sun Sparc M4000 Server along with Sun 6140 FC Storage on Primary site. Sun Sparc t2000 along with Sun JBOD storage for our stand by site.

2. OS Solaris 10

3. Database Oracle 10g. The standby database is updated through dataguard.

4. SAP ECC6 for R3 and BI Netweaver 7.

Now we would like to phaseout Sun Sparc T2000 servers along with JBOD storage and want to procure new hardware for our standby site. In this context I would like to have your guidence on the following points so as to eliminate the possibility of hardware compatibility issue with data base.

1. We propose to procure M4000 servers for our standby database, hence on bothr thr primary and standby site, M4000 servers will be running with Solaris 10, however we propose to go with emc or Hitachi storage for standby site as against Sun Storage 6140 already running on primary site. Are there any dependencies on storage level which may create compatibility issue during data migration to new hardware on standby database and also for applying the logs on standby site through data guard.

2. As you are aware that after fully commissioning of standby site, we are required to restore database from physical to standby datbase or vice versa due to many reasons like recreating standby site due to failover of primary etc. In that perspective whether we can restore the data from one site to other.

3. Any other issue which I havent visualised.

Thanks in advance.

You can go with EMC or Hitachi storage. No issues with that.

Data restoration will not be an issue since you maintain same OS and DB platform at Primary and DR site.

3. Any other issue which I havent visualised.

Ensure that the tape library you have works fine with either EMC or Hitachi Storage.
