Item Dependency

Hi,

Whether anybody is using Item dependency in Portfolio Management. We are just exploring the use of Item depedency with Initiative to define Project sequence within Program. I am not seeing much use of Item dependency to address this. Please let me know if anybody is using / know item dependency functionality.

Hi Pramod,

You can maintain the items as depndent items if there is any dependency on the items and relevant dependency type.

Based on the planned and actual dates for the dependent items and dependent type, you can have Risk status field in dashboard as green, red and yellow.

So, item dependeny dashboard can help you in planning if we have dependent items based on the rist status displayed in dependencies dashboard.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for the answer. We are more looking at bringing control on project planning through item dependency when we plan Program but it seems that there is no impact of Item dependency on planning apart from just showing risk indicators.

Do you have any idea wherein somehow we can use this dependency to bring effect on Project planning within Program.

Hi,

Its same as we need to maintain Project dependency within Program and start and end date of various Projects within Program should be as per dependency maintained.

Hi Pramod,

You can have the program as initiative and assign all items to initiative. And addionally maintain the dependencies between the assigned items.

Can this approach work for you to track program with multiple projects?
