PC unable to connect to SAP

Former Member

Hi,

We have a PC at a remote site on a 1 MB link with SAPGUI installed.

The machine is able to do the following:

1. Telnet from the machine to the SAP server (on 3200) works fine

2. tracert gives an output both ways

3. ping works fine both ways

4. SAPGUI traces show "error in network layer" messages

5. The PC is able to connect to other network resources & websites..it

just is not able to connect to any SAP system (network error)

Please help..

Thank you,

Saba.

Hello Saba,

If you get a popup error from the GUI, then this is a network issue.

Thanks for the reply..

How do we figure out what's amiss at the network end ?

Telnet, tracert, ping, accessing other network resources..everything is fine.

The only problem is SAP..

Hello Saba,

Refer to the note below about NIPING

[Network diagnosis with NIPING|http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/500235]

This shold provide you with a result.

It might also be helpful to advise us of the text in the popup error.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply..I've tried niping and can't see the client request come in to the server.

At the client's end, it first says connect ok followed by an error.

I'm not sure where precisely the issue lies on the network front..

Thank you,

Saba.

Is this an SSO connection or just a regular userid/password connection? Also, have you tried a low speed connection under the Network settings of the SAP GUI for reduced network traffic?

Hi,

This is a standard user id/pwd connection.

I've tried Low speed also..but it doesn't work.

Is it because niping is not able to complete successfully ?

Thank you,

-S.

Hello Saba,

Can you raise a message in BC-CST-GW, with the result of the NIPING trace.

please ensure that you have the latest GUI patch (10) installed.

Thank you for the replies

We got it solved by changing the VPN.
