Hello Sap Gurus

Need your help in Migration of legacy data into SAP DMS.

My Customer has a PDM system where he stores his documents like .doc,.pdf,.dwg etc.,

Metadata attributes looks similar to the one we create in DMS.

Please suggest the best practices in migration. Also need some expert help in rough estimate(Time required) to migrate data of 100MB to sap dms.

Answers in brief will be a lot helpful

Thanks in advance.

Hi Praveen,

I could think of following 2 options.

Option1

Though have never worked on this scenario so far, however if your data volume is large,'CIDEON Import PDM' product helps to automatically import data masses to SAP wherein document hierarchies are created by removing the external references.Do refer the product brochure via the below link and see if it correctly fits your requirement.

Option2

ALE (Application Linking and Enabling) is a method of moving master or transactional data between systems. Obviously when you move data you would need to ensure the clients are setup correctly, but you could use ALE to move characteristics and classes across as well so you don't have to manually create these in the new client.

Do a search in the help file for ALE and you should find lots of information. Generally, the setup of ALE would be a basis function.

Here is some additional information I picked up in a google search:

Estimated time frame should be around 3 - 4 days.

Hi Deepak

Thanks for the information.

I will try to go with Option 1 and check whether that will work for me.
