Hi Experts,
I am new to webdynpro and and for a context attribute bound to a layout field I would like to implement a search help, currently the input help mode is set to automatic and it has determined a standard search help.
For implementing my requirement I would like to call the same search help when the F4 is pressed. The reason I want to call the same search help is the I need to pass additional data to the search help from webdynpro screen before the call and rest should be same as before in standard.
Should I create a OVS or a freely programmable search help for this? any links as how I can proceed with this?
Thanks
I agree with Reddy, an OVS would be suitable for your requirement. I recently programmed one as well (for the first time) and used the following guides. Maybe they can help you too:

In case you don't want to use OVS, here's a guide for creating a freely programmed search help too (I didn't use it myself yet since OVS worked out for me):
If you need more detailed help in the process of implementing, let us know.

Hi Lukas,
The standard search help is a collective search help and when invoked it has the option to select the search help from the drop down. Now I want to have the same for the custom search help. I checked the link you have given and it gives the desgin using select option, is there any way to just trigger the standard search help? The reason is I think I need to design different layouts for each search help?
I just realized I posted in another of your posts which relates with this one. Could it be you are trying to use OVS to have an explicit Event-Handler to kind of 'pre-exit' your standard collect search help?... I'm afraid this is beyond my knowledge/ideas... Maybe somebody else has an idea.
EDIT: Found a thread which seems to be similar:

Hi Lukas,
The requirement here is I need one of the webdynpro screen value before the search help is called. For this either I need to somehow read the screen when the f4 is triggered or create a new search help.
I am not too confident if its possible to trigger a method/event when F4 is clicked, the other thread is about this.
Now since I need to create a new search help, the search help should be same as the existing one which is a collective search help. I have never created a ovs or a freely programmable search help so I wanted to know if it was possible to call the existing standard search help?
Phew, you got me there!
If you can somehow say within a freely programmably search help "get that DDIC collect search help I need into runtime somehow"... I really don't think so, but I do not know.
You could still try to use a searchhelp-exit, if available and try something within that...
Or, to go completely lunatic:
1. Make the input-field read-only, create a button-UI. On event handler of the button press export the values which you need in the search help later into the ABAP memory for a certain ID and make the input field ready for input again (readonly = ' ').
2. Then, in case the DDIC field is custom and only the search help is standard, you could copy the standard collect search help into Z-Namespace and assign it to your DDIC-field instead.
3.Since the Search help is Z now, you could apply code at the beginning of it Importing the values from the memory you exported earlier thus having access to them within the search help.
I don't know whether this would work and it's pretty perverse too, but THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN DEVELOPERS ARE OUT OF IDEAS!!! ))
Beats me, I have to admit. Maybe some experts like Thomas, Baskaran or Kris have an easy sample solution at hand for this..
Cheers, Lukas
Hi Srinivas,
It would be better to use OVS help as you need some additional data from the WD screen.
By using OVS you can easily capture the required data.
