Hi Friends,
Can anyone please suggest on how to create a OS cluster using ESXi 5.0.
System details as below,
Host OS : WIndows 7
Hardware : 500GB
RAM : 8 GB / 4 GB
Guest od : RHEL 5.0 / RHEL6.0
Is it possible to configure cluster on the above mentioned environment ?
I think "VMware-v Center-Server" can be installed only in windows server edition Not in windows 7.
Further,
Can somebody suggest on
1. Require software's
2. How to achieve it.
Thanks,
Please be careful with the denotation "host OS" and "guest OS". If you use ESX(i), there is no "host OS", only guests.

Windows Guest Cluster:

Thanks all for your quick response.
I am bit confused of reading some documents related to VMware.
Can you please quickly suggest on below points,
I installed ESXi 5.0 in Vmware workstation which sites on windows 7 (host machine), Is this the correct method ?
Is it possible to perform vm cluster in windows 7 ( one physical host) ?
All I want is the steps in short to acheive vmware cluster in one host and on windows 7.
If windows 7 is not possible, then how to acheive it with windows 2008 / 2003 server ?
Steps in short
@ Matthias Schlarb,
Please clarify this " If you use ESX(i), there is no "host OS", only guests"
Thanks,
Hi Markus,
If i install ESXi in Bare metal,
where I have to instal VMware-v Center-Server and Vsphere client ?, as these are windows executable's.
My intention is to install and configure OS cluster in one physical host, Can you also please give some insight / steps on how to achieve this.
Thanks in Advance.

On a separate client/PC.

With 8 GB RAM not possible.
ESXi alone plus two instances will consume all the memory.
Markus
Please note. Clustering at the OS level is not an SAP specific task. VMware and/or Microsoft will provide better Clustering methods for clustering your Operating System.
Also,
As it was said earlier, VMware ESXi is a bare-metal hypervisor, which means, it should be installed directly on the hardware. You'd then manage the Hypervisor via VIC (Virtual Infrastructure Client) which is installed on a Workstation PC and used to remotely access the hypervisor or vCenter directly.
Hi Ganesh,
Refer SAP Note 1374671 - High Availability in Virtual Environment on Windows for inputs on HA setup on Virtual environment.
SAP either supports Guest Failover Clustering, or Host Failover Clustering
Additionally refer SAP Note 1122387 - Linux: SAP Support in virtualized environments
SAP Note 1400911 - Linux: SAP on Red Hat KVM - Kernel-based Virtual Machine
Hope these are useful.

Deepak Kori
