Hi I found some documentation to create descriptive characteristics and the consumption group.

Descriptive Characteristics

Consumption Group

Consumption groups are used in conjunction with descriptive characteristics to enable the forecast to be consumed by sales orders and related orders, at a more detailed level than the location product.

The descriptive characteristics are used to assign peanlty groups and capacity reservations.

In order to avoid data inconsistencies the maintenance and use of consumption groups is relatively restrictive. This means that:

u2022 You can change or delete a consumption group, if there are no orders for any location product to which the consumption group has been assigned.

u2022 Similarly a location product cannot have any orders, if you want to assign it a consumption group.

u2022 You cannot change a master planning object structure that is the basis of any planning area to which a consumption group has been assigned.

u2022 It is not possible to create an order for a location group that has been assigned a consumption group, as long as this consumption group is being edited.

So be careful when you create consumption groups and assign them to a product location master. It is not possible to change the consumption group if you already created orders for the product in LiveCache. If you want to change the consumption group you need to delete all orders.

1. Make sure in advance you know the meaning of the Field Catalog Field Names by checking the the fields of the ATP Field Catalog.

2. Access the transaction choosing the following navigation options:

SPRO Tools -> Customizing -> IMG -> Execute Project

Node path IMG -Activity

Advanced Planning and Optimization -> Global Available-to-Promise (Global ATP) -> Product Allocation Maintain Field Catalog

3. Maintain Consumption Group.

4. Access the transaction choosing the following navigation options:

SPRO Tools -> Customizing -> IMG -> Execute Project

5. Make following definitions:

Node path IMG -Activity

Advanced Planning and Optimization -> Supply Chain Planning -> Demand Planning (DP) -> Basic Settings -> Consumption Maintain Consumption Group

6. Press button Insert Row.

7. Enter the following:

Field name User action and values Comment

Consumption Group ##CGRP1

Description ## Consumption Group 1

Planning Area ##DP1 You can also use another Planning Area but it makes sense to work with the same characteristics in Demand Planning and the consumption group. The consumption group might use a a subset of the Demand Planning Characteristics

8. Save your entries.

9. Mark the line with your created Consumption Group.

10. Press the button Choose (F2).

11. Map the DP Characteristics to the Field Catalog Field Name in your Consumption Group

Field name User action and values Comment

DP Chars 9ALOCNO Predefined value for location. You do not need to enter.

Fld Catalog WERKS Predefined value for location. You do not need to enter.

DP Chars 9AMATNR Predefined value for product. You do not need to enter.

Fld Catalog MATNR Predefined value for product. You do not need to enter.

12. Click on tab DP Charac. Assignment. You can see the the characteristics of the Planning Object Structure you created earlier.

13. Mark one Line e.g. ##CUST Customer

14. Press the Column left button to move the DP characteristic to the left side into the Consumption Group.

15. Mark the entry you created.

16. Click on the tab Field Catalog Assignment.

17. Mark the line KUNNR.

18. Press the Column left button to move the Field Catalog Field Name to the left side into the Consumption Group.

19. Confirm any warning message by pressing <Enter>.

20. Optional, Repeat steps 9. to 16. for more DP characteristics and Field Catalog Field Names.

21. Assign the Consumption Group to the Product Location Master.

22. Access the transaction choosing the following navigation options:

/SAPAPO/MAT1 Advanced Planning and Optimization -> Master Data -> Product -> Product

23. Enter Product and Location

24. Press button Change.

25. Navigate to tab Demand

26. Enter Consumption Group.

27. Save

Hi,

Descriptive characteristics are the characteristics used to classify the demands other than the usual product/location characteristics. These descriptive characteristics can be like customer, sales org., etc. For this you need to create a consumption group with the required characteristics in SPRO. Then you have to assign this consumption group to the location-product master. While releasing the demand from DP to SNP, you need to mention this consumption group. This will release the demands with descriptive characteristics to SNP. In the RRP3 transaction, you can see these characteristics by clicking the green triangle in the demand line item.
